We are based near Clapham Junction and serve a wide community through our complementary therapies, group and courses, information service, home visiting service and our online resources.

Our aim is to enable people affected by cancer to find new strength, resilience and their own way of coping with the challenges cancer brings.

Set up 30 years ago

Thirty years ago the founders of Paul’s Cancer Support Centre, in recognition of the fact that there were no facilities in the community for people living with cancer, set up a small support group.

Since then, the Centre has grown to provide a wide range of services to meet our clients’ needs. We work in partnership with others to provide a seamless service to our clients such as through our Macmillan Information Service and our Specialist Benefits Advice Service, provided by Wandsworth CAB.

Our work

clientquote1People come to us from Wandsworth and nearby boroughs. Anyone affected by cancer who can reach the Centre is offered help.

We particularly target our services at those people who are living with cancer in the highly deprived communities near our Battersea base, as they are much more likely to experience inequalities in receiving healthcare.

We are committed to extending our work within the black and minority ethnic communities by running cancer awareness sessions and recruiting Cancer Champions to provide cancer information in local communities.

As pioneers in cancer and complementary care, we have been used as a template for other centres and have freely given advice to new groups in this field. We have established an in-depth self-management programme helping participants to cope with cancer. We also run training courses in the skills needed to offer therapies or befriending to housebound people with cancer.

Using the Centre

If you or anyone you know would like to use our services, please give Honor and Kerr, our Support Officers, a ring on 020 7924 3924 and they will tell you more about what we offer and set up a time for you to visit us.

Supporting the Centre

The demand for our services increases year on year. Statistics show at any one time 170,000 people are living with cancer in London and 28,000 new cases are diagnosed in the capital each year. We receive some support from the NHS but the position after the structural changes in April is unknown.

A great deal of our time and energy has to be spent on a diverse fundraising programme. If there are ways in which you could support us or if you could offer us your time and skills, please contact our Director, Petra Griffiths, on 020 7738 1333 or via email.
